Mike, it has been almost 4 years since I wrote my first comment on your page. I am currently finishing up a tour in Iraq, now 60 years old and a DOD civilian, and as unreal as it seems I think of our Vietnam days. This is a much different conflict then ours was but young men, and women, are still dying to young. I'm forever thankful for what you did and think about you the others often.

We called him Mike. I think about you and that dreadful day in March 1967 more and more the older I get. We saw many friends killed and wounded but when you went down it created a hurt on so many of us still left there. We met right out of jump school, two kids assigned to 1st Platoon, A company, 1st Bn, 501st Inf, 101st Abn Div. We were together on March 28, 1966 when our unit received orders to go to VN as 4th Bn, 173rd Abn Bde. We weren't best friends (but good friends) because we were both given duties as RTO's, him for the Platoon Leader and me for a Squad Leader. I remember one of our last close times together. We were in a fox hole in the Central Highlands pulling radio watch for the platoon. It was late at night and we started talking about going home in 100 days or so and what we were going to do. You got promoted to Sergeant about that same time and left our group to become a team leader for one of the squads. You were killed shortly there after. For all that reads this, Mike was a hero. He was awarded the Silver Star for his actions that day while trying to protect the lives of his buddies. He was honest, brave, hardworking, and caring. He was never first, we were. I hurt for him and countless others that haven't had the pleasure of watching their children and grandchildren grow up. I remember his personality after all these years but not his face.
