A True Gentleman...A Good Man
I knew Skip during our R.O.T.C. summer experience and followed his brief Viet Nam tour. We managed to exchange communications as he was preparing to go to Viet Nam. His mother contacted me, soon after his death. Skip was an inspiration to those who were priviledged know him....a true gentleman...a good man...an unfortunate loss.
My regards to his close friends. I still miss his kind spirit and humanitarian ways. Rest well my friend!

Thanks "Skip"
Michael Valadez mdvga@earthlink.net "Skip" was my Platoon Leader in OCS, Class 1-67 Sugar Hill,GA 30518- 6386 USA In his role as Platoon Leader for USAAMOCS Class 1-67, Lt. Retzlaff was an officer and a gentleman in the finest tradition of the Citadel. While I did not know him long, he made a positive impact on my life. I will always remember his hospitality to us green lieutenants by inviting us to his quarters immediately after graduation. We still held him in awe and he had to keep telling us not to call him "sir." Thanks "Skip," for your example and your ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Sunday, May 30, 1999

I was Lt. Retzlaff's first Recon Sgt. upon his arrival in Vietnam. It took him a while to throw the "book" away and listen to me as an experienced old-timer on line, but he did eventually. He was a good human being that I hated to see die for some useless hill we gave back that very same day! I will always remember L.T. as I called him, and feel fortunate to have known him if only for a short time. Rest easy in God's arms L.T. He loves 173rd Paratroopers'. Sarge
