It is with heavy hearts we report the passing of friend and 15 year member of American Legion Cherry Hill NJ Post 372, Richie Chandler. Rest easy Rich, you are missed and will not be forgotten.Richard N. Chandler, 85, a resident of Mount Laurel, NJ, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026. Born on May 13, 1941, in Camden, New Jersey, Richard lived a life marked by service, dedication, and integrity.
A proud patriot, Richard served his country as a member of the esteemed 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army. Following his active-duty service, he continued to demonstrate his commitment to the nation through his involvement with the United States Army Reserve. His military career instilled in him a deep sense of discipline and honor that would guide him throughout his life.
After his military service, Richard focused on protecting and serving his local community. He joined the Camden Police Department in New Jersey, where he served with distinction for 25 years. He rose through the ranks and retired as a Lieutenant, earning numerous awards for merit, bravery, and heroism along the way. He was also an active member of the Police Honor Guard. His steadfast commitment to justice and public safety made a lasting impact on his colleagues and the community he served.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Richard was a man of many interests and talents. He had a passion for art and collectibles and was an avid coin enthusiast. A lifelong sports fan, he enjoyed following the Phillies and Eagles. Those who knew him appreciated his humor, honesty, and steadfast support for his family and community.
Richard is survived by his siblings: Russell (Betty), Rodney (Toula), Bonnie (D.J.), Janice, and Michael (Sally). He was predeceased by his parents, Russell and Elizabeth Chandler, and brothers Rand, Ronald, and Roger.
Richard’s legacy is one of courage, dedication, and kindness. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
