Lovingly known as "NY John", John W. Radie of Maple Shade passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. John was born in Manhattan on November 12, 1947, and was raised in a large, close-knit family in Astoria, Queens with his eight siblings. During the Vietnam War, John honorably and proudly served his country for four years in the U.S. Navy. Residing in Maple Shade for the last 34 years and recently retiring from his decades-long career in commercial foods, John was an active volunteer in the community who believed in a true responsibility to provide selfless service to others throughout his life- a quality he strongly believed in passing on to his children and grandchildren. Through his leadership as a member and past Commander of VFW Post 2445, John maintained and grew his steadfast dedication to providing support to U.S. military veterans and their families. He extended his service through his memberships at American Legion Post 372, as well as Am-Vets Post 101. He enjoyed frequent vacations to Maine and loved vacationing there with Karen, his dear wife, and their many adored grandchildren. John enjoyed driving his 1992 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham with its famous ‘NYJOHN’ license plate. He enjoyed boating and casting a fishing rod into the ocean at the Jersey shore. Most of all, John loved to be able to spend every holiday with his large family where, for years, he was the family chef who took great pride in providing everyone with a delicious feast where all shared together in laughter, joy, and love.

Beloved husband of 32 years to Karen Radie (nee Berest), loving father of Michael (Renee) Radie, Tabitha Radie (Brad), Gabrielle Cianfrani, Stephen (Katie) Radie, and Philip LaPlaca, dear brother of 8, cherished grandfather of 14 and adoring great grandfather of 3, John will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing and visitation with his family on Thursday evening, May 25th 6 pm - 9 pm at the MARK C. TILGHMAN FUNERAL HOME, 38 N. Forklanding Road, Maple Shade. Eulogies will be shared at 7:30 pm at the funeral home. An additional viewing will take place on Friday morning, May 26th, 7:30 am - 8 am at the funeral home. Interment will be in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, Pa. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations in John's name should be made to the Maple Shade VFW Post 2445, 914 East Main Street, Maple Shade, NJ 08052.
