Stanton – Michaels Fund
A native of England, George Arthur Stanton was born 14 AUG 1879. He was a WWI veteran. He married Jean S in about 1920 and they had 1 child, Elsie. His first wife Jean, died in 1946. He married Aleena Tracey in 1947. Aleena had 2 children, Charles Tracey Jr and Aleena Tracey Michaels, from a previous marriage.
At the time of George Stantons death, 26 APR 1959, he had been an Audubon resident for 22 years. He had been employed for 40 years at Strawbridge and Clothier as a furniture salesman. He was a member of the Murray-Troutt Post 262 American Legion, where he served as chaplain for 21 years and he was the chaplain of the Camden County American Legion for 11 years.
In June of 1959 a resolution was passed naming the American Legion annual Christmas Cheer Program, "The George A Stanton Christmas Memorial Fund" in remembrance of the man who fostered the collection for and the distribution of gifts each year to the hospitalized and shut-in veterans from Camden County.
