During the early weeks of the Coronavirus pandemic, members of the American Legion Post 372 assisted in moving a veteran in need into a new apartment in Collingswood. What an honor to be able to assist this veteran!

Bill Collins from Cable Works, who is not a member of our Post/Volunteerism crew,  also assisted with some free cable work for this veteran – in appreciation of his volunteerism we have made up a Certificate of Appreciation, which will be presented to him soon.

While the Boys State Session has been postponed to next year, we have made up and presented Certificates of Acceptance to all the boys. The Girls State Session is still scheduled for June, but it will be a virtual session.

The NJ American Legion Statewide Services, Parade and Social have been cancelled for this year, along with the American Legion Convention in Wildwood.

Installations of Officers, which was originally scheduled for May 26th in the Legion Hall has been cancelled. Please reach out to your units Commander/President/Director for information on elections/officers.

We WILL be flagging the veterans graves at Locustwood on Saturday, May 16th – meeting at Legion at 10am -the only differences this year are that we were unable to invite the public/community to help this year and we will need to follow social distancing regulations in the cemetery.(see previous email for complete details).

We will also be flagging the veterans graves at Colestown Cemetery on Monday, May 18th at 6pm – meeting at Colestown. Again, we will follow social distancing regulations.

We continue to work behind the scenes helping our members and those in the community, including our first responders.

Food donations, face masks and deliveries have been made to our local Police Department and Jefferson Hospital by members individually and as part of their units.

We also have a “special presentation” that will be presented to our first responders in the coming month. Stay tuned for more information on that as all details are sorted out.

There has been a lot of remodeling, renovations and maintenance going on at the Legion, many will not recognize the place ! If nothing else, the closure has afforded us the time needed to get into these well needed projects. More information and photos to follow on that!

On Thursday, May 7th, 2020, we held “Operation Food Drop” from 10am – 3pm at the American Legion. It was a huge success. Members set up to ensure smooth sailing (social distancing) with entrance and exit directives, drop and go donation tables and volunteers, including the police officers from the Cherry Hill Police Department to help move, sort and organize the donations.

The following day, after sorting and packing trucks up, we were able to donate 1600lbs of product donations to the Cherry Hill Food Pantry, along with numerous boxes of food/toiletries to some veterans in need.

American Legion officers, along with some Cherry Hill Police Officers assisted with taking down our tattered flags and replacing with new flags – a great honor to ole Glory.

While the Memorial Day service at the Township is most surely cancelled, there will be some sort of virtual/recorded Service. On that note, we video-taped Commander Grizz and Jack Walsh doing the Reading of the Post 372 deceased veterans, which will be included in the Township Presentations.

We are currently working on additional video/recorded presentations that will be available to view online on our website and Facebook during the Memorial Day Weekend.

At this point, we will be holding a Memorial Day Service at the Legion on Monday, May 25th at 9:30am – it is held outside and everyone can social distance in the Picnic Grove. If anything changes, an email will be sent out.

With modification and adjustments, our MISSION CONTINUES!!!

Please remember that if you, or a member you know of, is in need of help reach out to our Commander Grizz
