Department of Veterans Affairs and Paralyzed Veterans of America NEED OUR HELP …
The Department of Veterans Affairs and Paralyzed Veterans of America are co-presenting the 34th National Veterans Wheelchair Games, which will be held in Philadelphia and surrounding towns in New Jersey, August 12-17, 1014. Over 600 athletes from around the United States and Great Britain will be participating.
The response to our call for volunteers for the games has been phenomenal! We have been able to fill most of the Athletic and Support roles and in fact have closed many assignments. HOWEVER….some critical missions still need substantial numbers of volunteers, so we are EXTENDING THE DEADLINE FOR VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS
for the following needs:
Site Set Up – Lots of shifts, every day August 11-17, Early, Late, and Long shifts still available!
Transportation – Our largest requirement. Big numbers needed every day of the games EXCEPT Friday. Spend the day riding an Air Conditioned SEPTA bus. FREE!

Bowling – The event with one of the largest number of Veteran Athlete participants, Wednesday ,August 13 (4pm-8pm) and Thursday, August 14 (7am-5pm). (Another AC event) – Maple Shade, NJ

Water/Ice/Towels – Come on! It’s August. It’s Philadelphia and New Jersey! It’s gonna be HOT! Come out and help keep our Veteran Athletes cool and hydrated.(Track and Field)
Air Rifle – Another popular event with the Veteran Athletes. We need lots of volunteers to keep this a safe event for all. August 13 and August 14 5pm-9pm.
Accommodations – Truth in lending….this is a TOUGH assignment. We’re talking about baggage handling here. UPS will drop off and pick-up the Veteran Athletes’ baggage at the Marriott, but WE have to get the bags to and from the Athletes rooms. The RIGHT rooms. First time. August 17 (Sunday).
Power Soccer Mechanics – Another unsung heroes kind of thing. Veteran Athletes’ chairs all need to be modified to compete in this event. Bring your mechanical inclination, we’ll provide the tools. August 12, 14-17.
Durable Medical Equipment – We are hosting over 650 Veteran Wheelchair Athletes at the Marriott. That’s more than any hotel can readily accommodate at once with HC accessible rooms, so we have to install and remove all of the DME necessary to provide the appropriate amenities for our Athletes.  August 10-12, 17 & 18.
