Cherry Hill WWII Veteran Honored
Friday, July 11th – Cherry Hill WWII Veteran to be honored ! Join us as we honor a WWII soldier and show our support for today’s Citizen Warfighters. Also, employers and veteran organizations will have the opportunity to sign a ceremonial “Statement of Support” that affirms their recognition that the Guard and Reserve are essential to the strength of our nation and the well-being of our communities. Commander Bill Quinn will be attending to present this veteran with a free membership to our Legion and thank him for his service. Please come out and honor this veteran. Or, if you like, be a part of the flag line welcoming him in! (just bring a 3×5 flag, or if you dont have one, borrow one from the Legion). Please be at the Cherry Hill Dodge Showroom, Rt 70, Cherry Hill, NJ by 10:45. If you are going to participate in the Flag Line, be there by 10:15am so line up can be set up before our WWII veteran arrives.
‘From the Greatest Generation to Citizen Warriors’ The ‘Railsplitters of the “84th” have a decorated past and a lineage that is rumored to count Abraham Lincoln as an early member and Henry Kissinger who later wore the unit’s uniform. Cherry Hill resident, Edward Martino, was a proud member of their 309th Combat Engineers. A purple heart recipient, Martino was one of the American heroes who battled in snow, sleet and rain to engage the enemies of freedom during the “Battle of the Bulge,” the largest and bloodiest battle fought by the United States in World War II. During WWII they were the 84th Infantry Division. Now, under the Army Reserve, the 84th Training Command provides training to joint, combined and active Army forces and have a local presences at the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.EMPLOYER SUPPORT OF THE GUARD AND RESERVE (ESGR) is a Department of Defense, mostly volunteer organization that seeks to create a culture where all American employers value and support the military service and sacrifice of their employees.
