Stephen W. Young was born on
December 20, 1945. His home of record is West Collingswood, NJ.
He served in the US Army where he attained the rank of Second Lieutenant
(2LT).
Young was killed in action on September 6, 1969, in Vietnam.

SOLDIER KILLED IN ACTION IN MEKONG DELTA
An Army second lieutenant from Collingswood, N.J., who had been in Vietnam
for five weeks, has been killed in action, the Defense Department reported
Friday.
Lt. Stephen W. Young, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Young, of 325 W.
Franklin ave., was killed while on duty in the Mekong Delta.
He graduated from Collingswood High School in 1963 and Bowling Green State
University of Ohio in 1967.
Lt. Young enlisted in Ohio in 1967 and went into the service in January
1968. He was graduated from officers candidate school in November 1968 and
was sent to Vietnam Aug. 1, where he was assigned to a mobile advisory team.
His father said he sent the family a letter saying he had been told to learn
the Vietnamese language and religious customs in two weeks.
Surviving with his parents is a sister, Mrs. Carolyn J. Scott.

I was a friend and fellow classmate of Steve while we were in OCS at Ft.
Benning. I was also the last classmate to see Steve alive in Can Tho
province before his death.
You are remembered and missed by this fellow vet.
